If you would like a place on one or both of these workshops please get back to me and I will reserve you a place.  When I have seven bookings the course will definitely run and I will then email you for payment for the day to secure your place.   If you have to cancel your place, I will give you a refund up a week before the class runs.  If you have to cancel a week or less before the class runs I will refund you if I have another person who can take the place.

I’m asking that all participating in my workshops do a lateral flow test on the morning of the workshop and also to bring a mask.  There will be 10 on the day if it is full, 7 minimum, there is good ventilation in the room but do wear something warm.

If you have any particular requests for the day do discuss them with me first to make sure I have all we need for you re materials and tools, you can do this by emailing me at .  Materials are provided by and bought from the tutor.  If you do have your own silver to use please bring your own blades and solder too.

Beginners can follow projects that introduce you to techniques used in silver jewellery making and you will finish the day with beautiful pieces to wear.  Ideas can be discussed with Janet and there are projects to give ideas to those with more experience.  Also design ideas can be discussed with Janet and you can be shown projects suited to your ability to help you decide what you wish to make.  Pictures of work completed on these days are below.

About the Silver Metal Clay Days
At Woodley
Tutor Janet Richardson

No dates set yet, but if you are interested in registering for future dates please email me at

The objective of the day is to enable you to use a pack of silver metal clay and be able to make something at home. You will make three items and learn many techniques including texturing, rolling, cutting, forming, stone setting, sintering, cleaning up and polishing. I try to keep the techniques separate from the traditional skills you learn on the Silver Jewellery Days.

The day runs 10 – 4 and costs the day price + the materials. Metal clay can vary in price but a general guideline 10grms of silver metal clay + a stone + pure silver wire comes to around £22. Materials are purchased from the tutor.

Gemmology – Diamonds and Pearls
Tutor Sally Spencer

A one-day workshop taking you through one of the classic gemstone combinations – diamonds and pearls.
We will look at natural diamond formation, the history of cutting and polishing, grading and imitation stones as well as looking at the diamond industry and synthetic diamonds. The second part of the day will look at the interesting world of pearls, including how these are formed and farmed.
The day will be suitable for those who have completed our Introduction to Gemmology day or those who are approaching the subject for the first time and will be a mixture of theory and practical work.

About the Introduction to Gemmology – Woodley – The Oakwood Centre, Headley Road, RG5 4JZ
Tutor Sally Spencer

This one day workshop will introduce the student to gemmology and gemstones as well as explaining how the characteristics of different gemstones can be used by a gemmologist to identify them.
Students will be taught how to use a 10x loupe to look at both internal and external features of gemstones and have the opportunity to look at a variety of different stones.
The use of some of the testing equipment used by gemmologists will be demonstrated and then students will have the opportunity to try these for themselves to see in practice some of the theory discussed during the day.
Students will also be introduced to synthetic, imitation, treated and composite materials before having the opportunity to look at examples of these.
The day concludes with a section concentrating on diamonds, their properties and their imitators, treatments and synthetic diamond.
