About this Event

Southlands Arts Centre is thrilled to secure the skills of the super Jan Richardson for this workshop.

Celebrate creativity, connection, and the joy of making something meaningful. Held the day before Mothering Sunday, this workshop is a lovely opportunity to spend time with someone special — whether that’s your mum, a family member, a friend, or simply yourself. You can also create a handmade gift for someone you cherish.

Enjoy a relaxed and inspiring morning learning traditional silver jewellery techniques with tutor Jan Richardson. With over 45 years’ experience and as co-author of Silver Jewellery Making, Jan brings deep expertise and a warm, encouraging teaching style.

During the workshop, you’ll learn to make either:

  • A pair of personalised earrings, choosing from a selection of focus beads, or
  • Two silver rings, selecting from three different styles — perfect for stacking or gifting.

Please bring £20 for materials, payable directly to Jan. If you work quickly and make more pieces, or prefer to take your time, the materials cost will be adjusted accordingly.

Open to adult women aged 18+. Beginners and those with some experience are equally welcome.

A thoughtful way to mark Mothering Sunday — with togetherness, creativity, and something beautiful to take home.

  • About the Silver Metal Clay Days
  • Tutor Janet Richardson

The objective of the day is to enable you to use a pack of silver metal clay and be able to use this at home.

You will make three items and learn many techniques including texturing, rolling, cutting, forming, stone setting, sintering, cleaning up and polishing.

I keep the metal clay making skills separate from traditional jewellery making skills you learn on the Silver Jewellery Days. This enables you to go home, buy some metal clay and feel you can make your own pieces independently after a one day workshop with me

A 10gm pack of Silver Art Clay and a stone to set is included with the cost of the day.

More packets of metal clay can be purchased from Janet
